Democracy-Loving Students to Commemorate Violent Overthrow of Democracy

pedrocarmonat.jpg

Hey remember those Venezuelan student movements? Those darling mop-headed urchins who represent the country’s greatest, whitest hope eh-vah and will usher in a new political era free from the baggage of the retarded grown-up opposition movements of the past because they believe in the democracy and the voting and all that? Well they’re having a march! An “Anti-Chavez” march! All over the world! On the same day! And it’s on: April 11th! Hey wait…

[Uh, kids—a little free advice from your Uncle BoRev: I don’t know what they taught you back in Serbia, but here in the Americas there is such a thing as “really bad symbolism.” And if you’re trying to represent yourself as a democratic movement, then you probably don’t want to stage your little march on the sixth anniversary of the day that those very same retarded grown up opposition leaders you’re trying to distance yourself from actually kidnapped your democratically-elected president, dissolved your constitution (along with your judicial and legislative branches), and installed evil skeleton man Pedro Carmona as dictator. Just my $.02 ‘k, bye.]

Anyway, it’s probably too late for them to reschedule now because they’ve got their adorable videos about it all over YouTube, which we can all watch and laugh at along with after the jump.

Here we go:

Ok this is kind of uplifting even though the music sounds like it was lifted from some generic Obama campaign ad. Also I’m afraid they may be over-promising just a smidge with their “No to Poverty” and “No to Hunger” and um…“No to Dead People”(!) slogans. While I, as a casual viewer, totally support those important causes, they need to keep it simple: We just don’t like the brown guy. Honestly, that going to be enough for most marchers, right?

Image-wise we’ve got some random weirdness going on. I totally get the whole Chavez-with-a-Ghostbusters-slash thing, but the that picture of the kids with guns might not mean what they think it means, and what’s up with the opposition to a classic U2 album? And how do you expect to get people out to a major worldwide march if you can’t even be bothered to track down a stop sign and take your own picture? Istockphoto is just tacky. Always.

Um ok this is the exact same video as the first, except that they’ve inexplicably dubbed some overwrought arrangement of –I don’t know, what?—an Irish folk ballad (???) behind it. Seriously, were they afraid that the last generic soundtrack might sound a little too edgy for their audience? Jesus you’re supposed to be college kids for cryingoutloud.

OMG this one kind of scares me. First of all I think they borrowed the soundtrack from The Hunt For Red October. And then it’s just a bunch of pictures with Chavez and other world leaders the organizers equally hate. And again with the “No to Dead People” line. I mean I respect optimism among our young people but I’m kind of nervous if they think some other president can do something about all the dying. And then it just goes on and on and on and on and on. Almost seven minutes.

Anywho if you click in the center of any of these videos you can go straight to their YouTube page and utilize the comments feature, which is fun. Enjoy!
