Holy Crapola! Zelaya has returned to Tegucigalpa.
Update 1: Telesur's got streaming video coverage if you habla the espanish.
Update 2: The defacto coup junta ex-"government" thing has been denying the return, but the U.S. has just confirmed the news, so they can suck it.
Update 3: Al Giordano is liveblogging, which is probably 20 times better than me doing it.
Update 4: The coup government still seems to be denying big Mel's big comeback.
Update 5: In case you were wondering what the crazies were thinking about all this: here (sample: "If Barry coordinated the transport of a criminal into Honduras, and is trying to overthrow a legitimate government, that would be grounds for impeachment").
Update 6: The OAS has had to release a statement basically telling the coup government not to kill the president.
Update 7: Haha Connie Mack's spray-tanned head just exploded.
Update 8: Hmm the coup government has officially stopped denying that Zelaya is in-country and instead has locked Honduras down in some nutty military curfew to "conserve calm." It's all very Baghdad '03.
Update 9: The State Department thinks Mel Zelaya's return will be a good time for "dialogue," because sure, whatever. THE PRESIDENT IS BACK.
Update 10: The NYT: "His return appeared to have caught the de facto government by surprise. Roberto Micheletti, who was appointed president by Congress, initially denied that Mr. Zelaya had returned, calling the reports 'media terrorism.'"
Update 11: The McClatchy take: blah blah "It's like some movie," "Chavez top ally," "chill b/c the junta won't hurt him," "Zelaya wants violence" drama drama CHAVEZ "this will disrupt elections" etc. Tyler Bridges = Connie Mack minus spellcheck.
Update 12: Oh look here's what some creepy American Investor, "Mitch" thinks about the Honduran sitch, courtesy of Fox News.
Update 13: The curfew has been extended another twenty-six hours. Mitch must have a COLOSSAL BONER right now.
Update 14: Naturally, Tuesday morning's Washington Post makes no mention of Zelaya's return, except in this Op-Ed by Lanny Davis "Roberto Micheletti" explaining that "the people of Honduras have moved on since the events of that day..." Haha he's so going to jail.

Yeah, Honduras has only been in crisis for three whole friggin' months. It's been burning the whole time, and the WaHoPo has only NOW risen out of its torpor to note the fact.
Gotta love that WaHoPo.

You got to love the WaPo, hidden on the website's front page is the headline "Zelaya's Return Reignites Honduras Crisis"
Because everyone forgot about the "crisis" until that pesky president decided to return with international support!

By the way, "uh oh" for all the conservative Uribe-allied politicians who so gleefully worked with Colombia's right wing narco-paramilitary death squads:

I notice that most articles recounting the coup origins mention that the military flew Zelaya out of the country (and some mention in his pajamas) to Costa Rica, yet, strangely, none seem to mention that this was not peaceful and they shot their way into the Presidential Palace.
Guess that's a minor detail, you know, passing thought, hey, I flew to Costa Rica today in my pajamas, wonder if it had anything to do with those dudes shooting my security guards and kicking in the doors?

“Now that President Zelaya is back it would be opportune to restore him to his position under appropriate circumstances, get on with the election that is currently scheduled for November, have a peaceful transition of presidential authority and get Honduras back to constitutional and democratic order,” Mrs Clinton said.

Mitch can go fellate himself. Those buses are gonna go right on pouring into Tegucigalpa, curfew or no curfew. The people are encouraged by Zelaya's return--they figure if he has the guts, so do they.
Let's see if Gorilletti has the 'nads to set the army on them. I bet not!

Chávez just said a couple of minutes ago that "it was a well-planned operation", apparently he (Zelaya) was in the back of a truck hidden at various points, and generally an adventure ...

From the crAP:
State Department spokesman Ian Kelly says in Washington that U.S. officials have confirmed that Zelaya is in Honduras. But Kelly adds: "Where exactly he is, I don't know, and we're just trying to find out more details."
Unspoken subtext: And when we do find out where he is, we're gonna send a sharpshooter after his ass!
