Moises Naim's terrible foreign policy magazine "Foreign Policy" now comes complete with its own terrible blog, the creepily-titled "Shadow Government." With a name like that you'd probably expect it to be written by a bunch of coup-plotting ne'er-do-wells, and upon reading it, your suspicions are immediately confirmed (example!).
But wait! The coup bloggers have already anticipated your skepticism, and have preemptively denied their own coupiness. In fact, they've actually written their weird denial into their own bylaws. Shadow Government's "About" section specifically notes that they are NOT "written by a bunch of coup-plotting ne'er-do-wells," Wow!
Air. Tight. Alibi. These people are good.

Gee I always thought the "policy" was:
Get and sell as much misery for US corporations & defense contractors & conglomerates by bribery of wicked low cost "officials" which will keep the rad bananas, coffee, guns et al flowing while continually subjugating large segments of the populace to no human dignity & the boot of an uber psycho for the sole purpose of cheap labor [since we can't openly get away with that slavery thing anymore].
I was wrong all this time?
My bad.

In other words, all the usual Cold War suspects. Reliable spouters of stupidities and inanities all. Just rotate 180 degrees and you'll get something more like the truth.

@Richard: We also remember that Moises Naim was part of the team that caused the famous Caracazo, laid the foundations for what led to the destruction of Venezuela's entire banking system, etc. etc. It is one place where there is little to distinguish the "loyal opposition" from "the ones in power, presumably".

You realize the author of the coup justification article, José M. Cardenas was the Bush Administration's Deputy Assistant Administrator in the Latin America and Caribbean Bureau of the U.S. Agency for International Development and presently a lobbyist with Roger Noriega's "VisionAmericas".
And that "Shadow Government" is edited by Jamie Fly, late of William Kristol's "Foreign Policy Initiative".

Nah. It's still regularly drawing wingnut welfare cheques. Probably from Sun Myung Moon. Or Rupee. Or Mr. Mellon Head.

Oh man, how LAME:
"For decades, U.S. policy towards Latin America has been to work with our neighbors to supplant 'rule of the strongman' with rule of law and fealty to constitutional processes. So how is it that now the United States is advocating the complete reversal of a long-standing bipartisan policy approach in our hemisphere?"
In plain English, the assclown is saying: We supported coup-mongering fascists in the past without a word of boo from either side of the aisle. Now all of a sudden some of us are breaking rank and supporting ELECTED leaders who were illegally deposed? WTF is wrong with us?
